Slowly Rising

Slowly rising comes the sun
As the day is now begun
And my heart is fully open
To you Lord
May my soul be made anew
By the grace I find in you
May I see the future you
Have now in store

The past is left behind
As my heart to you I bind
Asking you to help me
Never go astray
Yet I know if off I go
From the path to me you show
You will stay yet by my side
Throughout the day

So my soul will sing your praise
As my hands to you I raise
For your life has made my joy
Now quite complete
As the sky is filled with light
My spirit too is growing bright
In you my heart has found its true
And hopeful beat

This Day

I sat and watched as time slipped by
Speedily hastening into the future
Dust collected like new fell snow
Lights failed and cracks appeared
I sat in curious wonder of it all
Before me there was wreck and ruin
All there was come to nothing in due time
Pillaged by rot and rust and neglect
I sat as silent sadness turned to joy
As quickly I returned from whence I came
Tomorrow is still to be determined
What shall be then begins here and now

Possibilities

I will give myself
to what may be
For what is
cannot sustain
I will fall exhausted
if I must
So that hope
is what remains
For what joy can hold
for any
If we’re just about
this day
The present
is a fleeting flash
The future’s
on its way
I’ll fear not
the burning arrows
The enemy
may sling
I’ll climb the hill
and fight the foes
Until God’s praise
I’ll sing
Armored in
God’s righteousness
And energized
by grace
I’ll seek
the possibilities
And the glory
that awaits

The Wall

I came upon a wall
As I made my journey
Through the dense undergrowth
I had a pace to keep
A goal to reach
A plan to attend to

The wall was an obstacle

In frustration I made my way
Along the cold stone impediment
This unmovable object
Would be my undoing
Would thwart my plan
And dash my hopes

Days along the journey
I found a gate
That led inside the wall
I pried open the door
Forced my way through
And behind me
The heavy metal clanged shut
And there I was
On the outside
Where it was barren and cold

It was then I realized
The wall was not what kept me out
It protected me there within

It’s hard to know sometimes
Which side of the wall
One lives on
But it may be best
Not to assume

Winds of Grace

I rise on winds of grace
Soaring ever higher on
I rise to greet the day
Knowing victory is won
I stand upon the rock of truth
From there I see my day
The vista of God’s beauty
Stretches out in every way
I will walk the well worn path
I will step on virgin land
I’ll go when God says move
And I’ll stay when God says stand
This day holds holy promise
As My Lord and God leads on
I’ll rise on winds of grace my friend
Knowing victory is won

I have but now

I have but now
To make the later
The moment
To cast the die
Wisdom I seek
And right flavored choices
As the present
Quickly slips by
For that moment runs off
Into the past
And a new one
Slides in its place
New choices come
New nows encountered
As memories
Are but a taste

Courage

Courage is risk
Of exposure
Failure
Potential reached
Possibilities imagined
Of showing too much
Of not doing so much

Courage is choosing
To step out
Step back
Step in
To feel the arrows
And the ache

I’m more ready
To be courageous
To risk becoming
What I don’t yet know
To shed my security
And illusions of certainty
I’m more ready
To be courageous
But I wonder
If I’m ready
