Slowly Rising

Slowly rising comes the sun
As the day is now begun
And my heart is fully open
To you Lord
May my soul be made anew
By the grace I find in you
May I see the future you
Have now in store

The past is left behind
As my heart to you I bind
Asking you to help me
Never go astray
Yet I know if off I go
From the path to me you show
You will stay yet by my side
Throughout the day

So my soul will sing your praise
As my hands to you I raise
For your life has made my joy
Now quite complete
As the sky is filled with light
My spirit too is growing bright
In you my heart has found its true
And hopeful beat

Just One

Just one step in the right direction
Gets us started in a holy way
Just one look of deep affection
Sets the tone for an beautiful day
Just one act of consideration
Puts God’s love out on display
Just one word of commiseration
Calms the heart and nerves unfray

Just one moment
Just one choice
Just one offering
Just one voice

Just one baptism
Just one call
Just one Spirit
One God of all

Just One

Ready Yourself

What treasure awaits?
What beauty hidden?
What blessing might we find?
The day begins
Prepare the heart
And open up your mind

The ever elusive horizon
Holds the promise yet to be
But the journey
Is the endgame
There’s more
Than what we see

Fear not the cost
Cast off the doubt
Feel the shepherding of God
For though we walk
In valleys deep
We can trust His staff and rod

At journey’s end
We’ll count the cost
And celebrate the highlights
For this day’s treasure
And beauty rich
Then clearly seen in hindsight

Ready Yourself

Morning

Early morning clatter
As hands begin to serve
Slow understated chatter
As voices add to the reverb
Morning stalks the edges
Sunlight crests the hill
Wings flutter from the ledges
And the waters are unstilled
Arise and find your way
Hear creations’ morning call
Wake up embrace the day
A gift of God for one and all
