Ever Hopeful

Make me ever hopeful
Drive despair from deep within
Let my heart be held rock steady
As a new day now begins
You are more than I seek after
You have more than I can see
Let me find my life now given
To your future yet to be

Slowly Rising

Slowly rising comes the sun
As the day is now begun
And my heart is fully open
To you Lord
May my soul be made anew
By the grace I find in you
May I see the future you
Have now in store

The past is left behind
As my heart to you I bind
Asking you to help me
Never go astray
Yet I know if off I go
From the path to me you show
You will stay yet by my side
Throughout the day

So my soul will sing your praise
As my hands to you I raise
For your life has made my joy
Now quite complete
As the sky is filled with light
My spirit too is growing bright
In you my heart has found its true
And hopeful beat

Slowly Rising

Slowly rising comes the sun
As the day is now begun
And my heart is fully open
To you Lord
May my soul be made anew
By the grace I find in you
May I see the future you
Have now in store

The past is left behind
As my heart to you I bind
Asking you to help me
Never go astray
Yet I know if off I go
From the path to me you show
You will stay yet by my side
Throughout the day

So my soul will sing your praise
As my hands to you I raise
For your life has made my joy
Now quite complete
As the sky is filled with light
My spirit too is growing bright
In you my heart has found its true
And hopeful beat

Rising Up

Rising up
I find your healing
Works to soothe
My wounded soul
Rising up
I find your mercy
Stills my nerves
And makes me whole
Rising up
I find I’m hopeful
As this new day
Has its start
Rising up
I find I’m peaceful
Grace has come
And fills my heart

Water Scars

A temporary scar
Etches the flawless reflection
Young ones follow behind
Morning stillness broken
As foraging begins
Calm rustle of leaves
Interrupted by instructions
Young ones learning
Is no quiet task

Morning Round Up

Skittering about
I cannot manage order
Chaos abounds
Big and small
Run hither and yon
I weary of the task
Choosing one
And then another
Yet
In the end
We’re all happier
Even if some
Escape my grasp
There are just
So many
Words

Grateful

Dear God
I’m grateful
For this day
For your grace
For all goodness
For the challenges
Let me be bold
Let me not forget
Let me not fall short
Let me not fear failure
May I be at the end
As I am at the beginning
Full of hope and grateful
Amen

Here and There

It’s hard to recall
How here became here
For I remember
There quite well
Yet how can it be
That there changed to here
No doubt
There’s a story to tell
Still it seems very odd
To be where I am
Considering where I have been
But it steadies my heart
As I start this new day
Knowing here can be there
Once again

Fighting the Fight

In the moment
Just moments before
The day in earnest begins
I fall on my knees
Gird up my loins
Read up
And reload
I feed my soul
With hearty holy fare
As I stand
Ready to engage the day
I look around
And I see
The fiery chariots
And shields
Of angel armies

I fight each day
On two fronts
Battles without
And skirmishes within
Every day is a battle
Every moment I fight
But I do not
Fight from weakness
And I do not
Fight alone

Daily Puzzle

Pieces of the day
Lie scattered before me
A puzzle undone
If you please
Look first to the edges
Or maybe one scene
Set this one with that
To begin
The picture will soon
Begin to take shape
Minute by minute
I’ll see
The future disjointed
Now the present enjoined
As I learn
What this day will yet be
