The Wall

I came upon a wall
As I made my journey
Through the dense undergrowth
I had a pace to keep
A goal to reach
A plan to attend to

The wall was an obstacle

In frustration I made my way
Along the cold stone impediment
This unmovable object
Would be my undoing
Would thwart my plan
And dash my hopes

Days along the journey
I found a gate
That led inside the wall
I pried open the door
Forced my way through
And behind me
The heavy metal clanged shut
And there I was
On the outside
Where it was barren and cold

It was then I realized
The wall was not what kept me out
It protected me there within

It’s hard to know sometimes
Which side of the wall
One lives on
But it may be best
Not to assume

The Wall
