Did you bring us here to die?
They cried
We could have died back there
We could have lived our last
In a place of unbounded hope
They grumbled
Now you have brought us here
And we live in this reality
Of making our way from here
And to where?
They demanded
We hunger and thirst in the dry lands
We weary from the journey
Each day’s trek you say we are closer
But the desert landscape remains
Where from here will we go?
How do we know it’s worth the effort?
They protested
We’ll make our way back
This way is too hard
It wasn’t great back there
But it was better than this
We’ll go no further
They declared

And they turned back
Only to miss the promised land
The milk and honey
Just over that day’s hill

Climb the hill
