Goodness

I know what I think
Yet it’s not what I feel
I think what I know
May not be what’s real
Who decides what is true?
Is it left up to me?
Or maybe it’s you
Who says what should be
Is truth so elusive?
Is virtue so fickle?
Do we choose our own way
Our own fancy to tickle?
Is it possible good
Is not always best?
Could it be our desire
Should be put to a test?
And if it should be
Who sets the plumb line?
Who says this is too far
Or that choice is fine?
I fear that the lines
If not gone are quite blurred
And to think we know best
May be quite absurd
Lord Jesus come quickly
Reveal what is good
And give us the courage
To do what we should
