Rocks in My Head

There’s a quarry in my head
Yes, it seems,
A skull full of rocks
No, not like that
More like
A laboring endeavor
A call for persistence
As brain cells swing hammers
And chip away
At the rocks
Sometimes it’s days
Even months or more!
Grasping the handle
A smooth backswing
Of the hammer
The head crashing down
As the rock seems undaunted
But one day
The crack appears
One day
The hammer wins
One day
The thoughts break free
And ideas come together
And mindsets are changed
But
Unless I swing the hammer
Unless I swing it and swing it again
No progress can come
So
Each day
I keep pounding away
Until the rocks in my head
Are beaten into submission

Rocks in My Head
