Breaking God’s Heart

What breaks your heart?
What rends the heavens?
My sin unconfessed?
My hurt unforgiven?
My selfish ambition?
My failure to love?
What tempers the glory
Poured out from above?

So often forgetting
The pain you must feel
I do as I wish
My own life I would steal
As if I were the maker
Of my own beating heart
As if by myself
My own life I could start

So forgive me, O God
I have spit in your face
I have lived my own way
I have cheapened your grace
Forgive me again
As you do every time
And from this moment on
Not my will, but thine
