Painting the Sky

What color shall I paint the sky?
My foolish mind portends
Such arrogance within my heart
Am I the means to my own end?
Can I make the grass to grow beneath
Or the clouds to send the rain?
Deceived and pushed by prideful thoughts
I work most times in vain
No power lies within my hands
Except that which God would give
My thought of independence
Thwarts my only chance to live
There is no life abundant
No full life to be found
Except the life of grace that comes
As God’s truth in me abounds
No effort given by my strength
Will ever make it so
‘Tis only by my trust in Christ
That the seed of life will grow
So today I’ll venture out the door
And enjoy the painted sky
Knowing by the hand of God
The all sufficient life’s supplied
