Marked by Ash

Called to go to peace and plenty
To stand with arms stretched wide
To feel the warmth of sun on our face
With the God of creation beside
The journey there will take some time
We’ll have work to do on the way
Baggage to leave and struggles of faith
Will ready us for promised days
Dust on our foreheads received today
Mark us as pilgrims true
Declaring to all the world around
That we’ll journey to find life renewed
So bow your head and be so marked
Give yourself to fasting and prayer
And as you journey to find the greatest of joy
You may find that you’re already there

  1. “It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads.”

    Following the Antichrist!

    1. Yes, the enemy is good at quoting the Scripture that works to undermine the Prince of Peace – just as you see in Matthew 4:6.

However, this is not what you would make it to be. This is no mark “forced” upon anyone. This is freely received as a way to acknowledge our createdness and our need to turn from our own ways and back fully to the ways of God. No one is saved by this mark nor judged if it is not received.

      Nice try, though.

      1. The enemy – religions – have a great way of quoting only scriptures they have twisted into lies – and the fabricated stories they teach – all while passing over all Holy Commands – pure greed.

“SEE TO IT THAT NO ONE TAKES YOU CAPTIVE THROUGH HOLLOW PHILOSOPHY THAT DEPENDS ON HUMAN TRADITION AND THE ELEMENTAL SPIRITUAL FORCES OF THIS WORLD, RATHER THAN ON CHRIST.”

“THEREFORE, GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS.”

CHRIST NEVER EVER COMMANDED A PRIESTHOOD! DISCIPLES FOLLOW TRUTH – AND DO NOT CREATE LIES.

      2. This is no philosophy that DEPENDS on human tradition. It is a way that reminds us of the truth of who we are and who Christ is. It calls us to depend on Christ and to believe the Gospel. It is a means of teaching and discipling.

I realize you do so want to argue this, but you are fighting the fight you want to fight while not engaging in what I’m actually saying. You have general arguments being put forth merely because I spoke of the practices of Ash Wednesday without hearing how I see it and why I engage in it. Feel free to continue but you are more clanging gong and noisy cymbal than a voice of truth. As for me, I will seek and serve the Lord Jesus – the Way, the Truth and the Life. And I will find ways to help me and others repent and believe more and more.
