Reconstruction

The foundations of our fortresses
Are quarried from our pain
The boulders formed from sediment
Of unforgiveness, guilt and, shame
Unsightly walls rise from the ground
And soon they make our home
The brokenness of our own souls
Becomes mortar for the stones

But let us now this day declare
We’ll no longer strive to build
And let us pray for God to move
Before all peace and joy be killed
You’ll have to trust the Lord our God
For your construction will be lost
But the greater hope of heaven
Requires such a cost

But in its place the Kingdom comes
Like a bride in wedded bliss
Jesus Christ will meet us there
Our souls with love to kiss
That, my friends, is what should be
The hope of all we do
That God takes down our painful walls
And brings forth a mansion new
