A Promised Land

Fear has gripped so many
We kick against the goads
Storms have come and landscapes changed
Rains have washed away the roads
How will we get from here to there
What fate will us befall
With no vision for a way to move
We stop and build a wall
If we can’t determine where to move
We’ll hunker down right here
We’ll make our home among our own
A fortress built with bricks of fear
But if we’ll stop constructing
These prison walls we build
We may yet here the voice of God
Shout at the storm – “Be still!”
And then God will call and lead us on
To a promised land of plenty
Where grace and love and hope abound
And fear is but a memory
We’ll have to trust the Spirit
Holy, good and true
But what joy we’ll find abundant
On the day we finally do

A Promised Land
